Directions - From Portland take Highway 26 West to State Route 6 (also called Wilson River Highway). Take Route 6 to the Coast Range Mountains for about 15-20 miles. As you ascend the mountain look for the Gales Creek Campground on your right. (If you crest the summit you’ve gone too far.) Take the gravel road down to the right and follow to the end. Park near the trailhead for the Gales Creek North Trail.

Description -   An awesome ride through the coastal mountain range of northern Oregon. The Gales Creek and Gravelle Brother’s Trails are all singletrack that brings you through true rainforest conditions. These trails climb, descend and wind along the edge of the mountainside so if you are going too fast you will definitely fall along way down. The climbs go steadily up and are challenging but totally rideable. The descents are fast and fun, but you must stay very alert or bye-bye! Brown’s Camp loop is 98% singletrack that has much smaller ups and downs. The trails range from smooth to rooty to rocky that wind thru the forest. Yes, it actually was technical in some places! Lots of variation.

Loops -: A fellow Bikeragger who lives in Oregon gave us the tour here and kicked our butts at the same time! We did a “lollipop” kind of loop. We rode up and slightly down Gales Creek North Trail. Took a left onto Gavelle Brother’s trail, which climbed forever to the summit where we crossed a gravel road to a parking lot. Beautiful views from this lot! Went to the end of the lot and continued on the Gavelle Brother’s Trail (well marked) down to Brown’s Camp. Once at Brown’s Camp we did the Historic Hiking Trail Loop- just pay attention to the Trailhead signs, as there are a lot of turns. The loop brings you right back to the Gavelle Brother’s Trailhead and up we went to the parking lot, across the gravel road, then screaming downhill that seemed endless, to the junction of the Gales Creek trailhead. Took a right and went up and rode down to the car. About 23 miles or so…
