Directions - From Gunnison follow US Highway 50 west for 1.5 miles. Turn left on Gunnison Country Road 38 (Gold Basin Rd). Go for 2.5 miles to Hartman Rocks Entrance on the right.

Description -   High-desert (8,000ft above sea level) riding in a 6,000 acre basin. Diverse options - miles of smooth, sage-lined singletrack to concentrated slick-rock technical sections. Trails are for bikers, runners, hikers and there are climbing/bouldering areas as well.

Loops - Don’t bother picking up a trail map at one of the local bike shops. We did and then found that that bike shop map doesn’t match up to trial numbering and naming system that is in place at the area. It made for a confusing day, but after about 2 hours we basically decided to wing it and then had a great time. We did take a picture of the map provided at the area that is now on pics.bikerag.com – if I were heading back, I’d just print it and bypass the bike shop map.
The front section (viewable from the lower parking lot) is where all the gonzo downhill highly technical rocky trails are located which were way fun (Free Fall, V-drop, Notch…). There are a few dirt jumps near the parking lot. The back basin is where all the xc trails are located. The trails that have a mix of rocky and smooth singletrack are Ridge Trail, Rattlesnake, Outback, Technical Becks, Ring Dike and Sawtooth.
