Update 2014: |
Spray Painting Rocks on Trails - Recently some of our favorite local riding areas have fallen victim to unsightly vandalism in the form of spray paining rocks and logs with arrows. I assume the individuals who are doing this mean no harm. The intent is to make the trail easier to follow. The result is land owners are VERY UNHAPPY, trail builders are Extremely Pissed, trail users are fuming. The paint will be removed as much as possible and will some day fade, but we need to get the message out that this is not cool. Permission to build more trails in the future has been threatened, and lots of time will be wasted on the removal. Time better spent on planning and maintaining new trails. If anyone knows who is doing this painting, feel free and contact me JonPetersen@sbcglobal.net - I would rather you join the trail building crew and work in an official manner than work against us. If you wish to make the trails more followable, do it right, contact the people in charge and ASK if you can help. Even blowing the leaves off of trails can create problems, but pales in comparison to introducing unsightly spay-paint to Nature. Lastly, the #1 rule of mountain biking always applies: If you didn't build the trail, don't mess with the trail. corinthians:26 ----------------------------->
Always good times at Grayville! Directions - From Manchester area - 384 east, exit 5, 85 south, follow signs for 85 (85 takes some rights and lefts!!), when you hit rte 66, go straight and look for a right onto Hope Valley Rd. after a mile or so, Hope Valley takes a 90 degree right turn, (DO NOT TURN)continue straight onto Riedy Hill Rd. Follow Riedy Hill to stop sign at "T" intersection (Grayville Rd.). Directly across from the intersection is a Hebron Town Park lot. You have reached your destination. Or try these directions from hartford!! More Direct, less backroads Take anyway you want to get to Rt 2 East. Take Rt. 2 East to Exit 13 (Rt 66) take left and follow 5 miles to the intersection of Rt 85. Take right on to Rt 85 and another right onto Hope Valley Rd. after a mile or so, Hope Valley takes a 90 degree right turn, (DO NOT TURN)continue straight onto Riedy Hill Rd. Follow Riedy Hill to stop sign at "T" intersection (Grayville Rd.). Directly across from the intersection is a Hebron Town Park lot. You have reached your destination. Description - A nice variety of terrain here - nothing too gonzo, lots of single track. Some grassy single track, some fern single track, some slick rock, some rock gardens, fantastic views along river (oh stop it), great moderate to easy bike stunts, a few nice drops. The trail maintenance here is noticeably exceptional, a pleasure to ride you can clean the whole place (if you dont suck that is).. The atmosphere at this place is strange (good strange) very interesting surroundings - check it out - you can connect to neighboring wells woods in columbia via rail trail - just 3 miles away (I think)..
